THE CARE YOU DESERVE AFTER BIRTH
My name is Galia Lapidot-Boaz and I am a CAPPA certified Postpartum Doula serving the grater Charlotte NC area. I’m a wife and mother of three ages 18,16, and 12. In spite of three very difficult and complicated births (pre-eclampsia), I remember that the time immediately following was a wonderful experience filled with the wonder and magic of discovering a new human being.
To no small degree, my positive experience of easing into parenthood was due to the fact that postpartum support (by family and friends) is part of the fabric of the culture of my native country.
I completed a B.Ed. in creative education, toddlers through third grade, and worked for 21 years as a teacher in a preschool with one year olds, and infants. I have always felt lucky that there wasn’t a day when I didn’t wake up looking forward to going to work with those children. Providing support to parents, if questions arose about child development, was no less important or gratifying for me.
After accompanying a good friend during her postpartum days while on a visit back home, I was reminded of my positive experience as a new mother. This made me realize that many new parents in the Charlotte area may lack the opportunity to have an empathetic, non-judgmental, supportive individual present during that first crucial period.
This resulted in my decision to make a career change and become a postpartum doula, easing the transition to parenthood by accompanying, guiding and instilling confidence in new mothers’ instincts.
I wish to help new moms have the most positive postpartum experience possible!
What is a postpartum doula ?
A postpartum doula is there to help a new family in those first days and weeks after bringing home a new baby. Caring for a newborn while healing from birth and learning to navigate through this great transition, is something parents often do with little help or alone.
The postpartum doula offers many services, but her main goals are to help “mother the mother” and nurture the entire family as they transition into life with a newborn.
A postpartum doula provides evidenced based information on things such as infant feeding, emotional and physical recovery from birth, mother–baby bonding, infant soothing, and basic newborn care.
